Setup for a Cable Modem is easy. You will simply want to leave the Linksys on its default Internet Connection Type setting of DHCP.  Depending on your cable provider, you may need to clone your computer’s MAC Address to the Linksys.

  • Internet Connection Type:  Automatic Configuration - DHCP
  • Host name: (optional)
  • Domain name: (optional)
  • Click the Save Settings button
  • Close and reopen your browser

4

If you find you still cannot connect, you may need to clone your PCs MAC Address.  A MAC Address is kind of like a serial number assigned to various hardware devices in your computer.  Some Cable vendors use your computer’s Ethernet card’s MAC Address as a means of authentication.

  1. Log back into your Linksys router's page
  2. Click the MAC Address Clone tab under Setup
  3. Click the Enabled radial button
  4. Click the Clone My PC's MAC button to enter your computer's MAC address.
  5. Click the Save Settings button.
  6. Close and reopen your browser (in some cases you may need to reboot your PC in order to complete the setup.)
