Home Networking - Configuring the Linksys PLEBR10 PowerLine Adapter

The Linksys PLEBR10 will distribute a network signal to all power jacks in your home. In order to keep the network secure, the signal must be encrypted before entering the power lines within the home. Follow the instructions below to configure the adapter properly.

  1. Insert the Instant PowerLine EtherFast 10/100 Bridge CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.

    NOTE: If the Setup Wizard does not run automatically, click the Start menu and choose Run. Click on the Browse button. In the new window that opens, click on the drop-down menu next to Look in and select your CD-ROM drive. Then, double-click on setup.exe.

  2. Click the Next button.

    NOTE: You can access the Instant Powerline EtherFast 10/100 Bridge User Guide by clicking the User Guide button.


  3. You will see this screen.

  4. Take a moment to read the License Agreement.
  5. Select I accept the license agreement.
  6. Click the Next button.

  7. In the User Name field, type your full name.
  8. In the Organization field, type your organization's name.

    NOTE: If you do not have an organization, enter "None".

  9. Click the Next button.


    NOTE: In almost all circumstances, leave the Radio Button next to Anyone who uses this computer (all users) selected.

  10. Click the Install button.

  11. You will see this screen.

  12. Click the Finish button.

  13. Click the Yes button to restart your computer and complete the installation.

  14. After the computer has restarted, double-click on the Security Configuration Utility on your desktop.


    NOTE: If the icon does not appear on your desktop, open the Start menu, click on Programs, click on Linksys, click on Linksys PowerLine Adapter, then click on PowerLine Configuration Utility to open the program.

  15. Click the Next button.

  16. You can see the status of your PowerLine adapter here.
  17. Click on the Network tab.

  18. Here, you will see all devices on your PowerLine network listed in the MAC Address box. The device speed will be listed in the Data Rate (Mbps) box. To search your PowerLine network for other PowerLine devices configured with the same network password, click the Scan network button.
  19. Click on the Security tab.

  20. In the Network Password field, type your new network password .

    NOTE: All of the Instant PowerLine devices on your PowerLine network must share the same network password. The password must have between 4 and 24 characters. The password is case-sensitive, so note whether you use lowercase or uppercase letters. The password can include any letters of the alphabet, numbers, or punctuation marks.

    NOTE: To restore the password to the default (HomePlug), click the Restore Default button.

  21. Click on the About tab.

  22. When finished configuring your PowerLine Adapter, click the X in the upper right hand corner of the window.
