How to Set Up Outlook Express 5.0 or 6.0 to Send and Receive Email

You will need the server settings for your e-mail address. Go to EarthLink Server Settings to get these settings.

Open Outlook Express.

From the Tools menu, choose Accounts.

NOTE: If you have never configured, or used, your Outlook Express e-mail program, the Internet Connection Wizard will open automatically. Otherwise, go directly to Step 5.

Click the Add button and choose Mail.

In the Display name field, type your full name.

Click the Next button.

In the E-mail address field, type in your full EarthLink e-mail address (e.g.,  johndoe@earthlink.net ).

Click the Next button.

Click the down arrow on the My incoming mail is a ____ server drop-down list and choose POP3.

In the Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server field, type your Incoming mail server (POP).

In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server field, type smtpauth.earthlink.net

Click the Next button.

In the Account name field, type your full EarthLink e-mail address (e.g.,  johndoe@earthlink.net ).

In the Password field, type your e-mail password.

Check the box next to Remember password if you wish to save your password.

Click the Next button.

Click the Finish button.

Double-click your account in the Mail Accounts list.

Click on the Servers tab.

Check the box next to My server requires authentication.

Click the Settings button.

Select Log on using.

In the Account Name field, type your full EarthLink e-mail address (e.g.,  johndoe@earthlink.net).

In the Password field, type your password.

Check the box next to Remember password.

Click the OK button.

Click the Advanced tab.

Check the contents of the Outgoing mail (SMTP) field. If it is not 587 then delete the contents and type 587 .

Click the OK button.
