Exploring Microsoft Edge
  • Article ID: 230458

Summary

Use the information from the following article to explore Microsoft Edge, the newest browser from Microsoft available with Windows 10.

Microsoft Edge

Welcome to the newest way to surf the web! Check out the new Microsoft Edge tile on the Start menu or taskbar. Or just enter Microsoft Edge.

Search faster in the address bar

No need to go to a website to search for pictures of adorable penguins. Stay put and save time by entering your search in the handy address bar. You will get search suggestions, results from the web, your browsing history, and favorites right on the spot.

Hub: all your stuff in one place

Think of the Hub as the place where Microsoft Edge keeps the things you save and do on the web. Select Hub to view your favorites, reading list, browsing history and current downloads.

Write on the web

Microsoft Edge is the only browser that lets you take notes, write, doodle, and highlight directly on web pages. Add a few secret ingredients to a recipe right on the screen to share with your fellow amateur chefs, collaborate on a new project with your co-workers, or have fun with your kids - the web is your palette.

Select Make a web note to start adding to the page you're on.

Use the Pen to write with your touchscreen or mouse, Highlight, or Type a note.

Take your reading with you

Reading list gives you a place to save articles or other content you want to read later, like during your train on your commute home or over a lazy Saturday morning.

Just select Add to favorites and reading list > Reading list, and then Add . When you’re ready to read, go to the Hub and select Reading list.

Read with fewer distractions

For a clean and simple layout, select Reading view in the address bar. This will bring whatever you're reading to the front-and-center. You can even change the reading view, style and font size. Many people find reading black text on a white background to be a strain on their eyes. There are a few different viewing options when you jump into reading view, that you and your eyes will appreciate. Here’s how you access the different reading styles and change them to suit your different moods.

  • Click the More button - it is located near the top-right corner of the window and looks like this.

  • Click Settings.
  • Click the dropdown arrow beneath Reading view style. You may have to scroll down a bit in the menu to find it.

  • Click a view style. You can choose from:
    • Default
    • Light
    • Medium
    • Dark
  • Click the More button again to close the menu. The next time you jump into reading view, the view style will be changed.
