Click the Protection button to see the following menu of protection-related options and settings.

Parental Controls

To learn more about how to keep your children safe online using TotalAccess, click Parental Controls, then Info.

If you would like to install Parental Controls, click Parental Controls, then Install.

You will see the following options when Parental Controls are installed.

To prevent children from bypassing Parental Controls, click Parental Controls, then Make This Computer Child-Safe. When this option is selected, it will read This Computer is Child-Safe. Anyone using your computer will then be required to sign in to TotalAccess before accessing the Internet.

Parental Controls settings allow you to control who can contact your child, which sites can be viewed, the amount of time allowed online. These settings are managed through profiles on your My Account page.

To create a profile with Parental Controls:
  1. Click Parental Controls, then Add Profiles. The My Account Web page will open.
  2. Sign in with your email address and password.
  3. Click Add a New Profile.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to create the new profile.
  5. Once the profile has been added, a confirmation message will be displayed. Click Turn on Parental Controls at the bottom of the message.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to select your desired settings
  7. Click Save Changes. A confirmation message will appear. Click OK to close the message.
To edit Parental Controls:
  1. Click Parental Controls, then Edit Profiles. The My Account Web page will open.
  2. Sign in with your email address and password.
  3. Click the profile.
  4. Click Edit Settings next to Parental Controls.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to edit your desired settings.
  6. Click Save Changes.

Protection Center

Click Protection Center to visit the EarthLink Protection Center and learn about all of the tools EarthLink offers to protect your against dangerous email viruses, hidden spyware, Web site tracking, and other privacy and security threats.

Pop-Up Blocker

Click Pop-Up Blocker then Info to learn more about this free tool included with TotalAccess including features and system requirements.

You can easily change Pop-Up Blocker settings in TotalAccess. Click Pop-Up Blocker then Options, and the Options window will be displayed with the Pop-Up Blocker category selected.

Once you make any changes, click Apply to immediately apply the new settings or OK to apply the new settings and close the Options window. Click Cancel to close the window without applying any changes.

Protection Level
In the Protection Level section, select a desired level:
Off - No pop-ups will be blocked.

Normal Blocking - Pop-ups will be blocked when you visit a Web page for the first time, except from sites on your Allow List.

Full Blocking - All pop-ups will be blocked, except from sites on your Allow List.

Place a check next to Block Shockwave and Flash to block all flash content, except from sites on your Allow List.

To add a site to your Allow List:
  1. Click Open Allow List.
  2. Right-click on the first blank line, then type the full address of the site and press <Enter> on your keyboard.
  3. Click OK to close the list.
To delete a site on your Allow List:
  • Click Open Allow List.
  • Right-click the site address and select Delete Entry.
  • Click OK to close the list.
  • Privacy Tools

    Click Privacy Tools, then Info to learn more about this free tool included with TotalAccess including features and system requirements.

    You can easily change Privacy Tool settings in TotalAccess. Click Privacy Tools, then Options, and the Options window will be displayed with the Privacy Tool category selected.

    Once you make any changes, click Apply to immediately apply the new settings or OK to apply the new settings and close the Options window. Click Cancel to close the window without applying any changes.

    In the Privacy Tools Settings section, move the slider to the desired level of protection. Each level automatically checks specific exit options:

    Off - No exit options are checked.

    Low - The first option is automatically checked.

    Medium - The first two options are automatically checked.

    High - All four options are automatically checked.

    Custom - Allows you to check any of the four options you want.

    Exit Options
    Delete tracking data from my Favorites list.
    Delete my browsing history and temporary Internet files.
    Delete cookies, except those in the Allowed Cookies list.
    Delete Web addresses and info on forms that I've typed.

    Place a check next to Show a cookie counter in my Task Panel to show the number of cookies that have been deleted.

    spamBlocker

    To view messages in your Known spam Folder:
    1. Click spamBlocker, then Known spam Folder. The folder will open in EarthLink MailBox if it is set as your default mail program.
    2. Otherwise, Web Mail will open. Sign-in and the folder will be displayed online.
    To view messages in your Suspect Email Folder:
    1. Click spamBlocker, then Suspect Email Folder. The folder will open in EarthLink MailBox if it is set as your default mail program.
    2. Otherwise, Web Mail will open. Sign-in and the folder will be displayed online.
    To change spamBlocker settings:
    1. Click spamBlocker, then Settings.
    2. If EarthLink MailBox is set as your default mail program, the spamBlocker page will open in MailBox. Click the Settings tab. Select the desired settings, and click Save Changes.
    3. Otherwise, Web Mail will open. Sign-in and click the spamBlocker link. Click the Settings tab. Select the desired settings, and click Save Changes.

    ScamBlocker

    For information on how and where to report a suspected fraudulent email, click ScamBlocker, then Report a Scam.

    To update the ScamBlocker list of potentially fraudulent Web sites, click ScamBlocker, then Check for Updates.

    Spyware Blocker

    To learn more about this free tool included with TotalAccess including features and system requirements, click Spyware Blocker, then Info.

    To scan your computer for spyware:
    1. Click Spyware Blocker, then Start Scan and Spyware Blocker will automatically scan your computer for spyware.
    2. Once the scan is complete, a message will appear with the amount of spyware found and the amount that can be safely disabled.

    3. Select Yes, then click OK to automatically disable the spyware. A confirmation message will appear when the action is complete. Click OK to close the message.
    4. Select No, then Next to manually select which spyware you want to disable.

    5. Place a check next to the spyware. Click Disable, then Next.

    6. A message will appear asking, "Do you want to continue?" Click Yes to close the message and disable the selected spyware.

    7. Click Finish.

    9. A confirmation message will appear when the action is complete. Click OK to close the message.

    Spyware Blocker can notify you when spyware is detected on your computer through Spyware Blocker Alerts.

    To turn the alerts on:
    1. Click Spyware Blocker, then Enable Spyware Blocker Alerts. A message will appear asking, "Do you want to turn on Spyware Blocker Alerts?"
    2. Click Yes to turn on the alerts.
    To turn the alerts off:
    1. Click Spyware Blocker, then Disable Spyware Blocker Alerts. A message will appear asking, "Disable Spyware Blocker Alerts?"
    2. Click Yes to turn off the alerts.
    To restore spyware:
    1. Click Spyware Blocker, then Restore Spyware.

    3. Place a check next to the spyware you want to restore, then click Restore.
    4. A message will appear asking, "Do you want to continue?" Click Yes to close the message.
    5. Click Finish to close the Restore Spyware window.
