Unable to Send and Receive Email Due to Norton AntiVirus

Norton AntiVirus 2000 and above, in some cases, may cause problems sending and receiving email. 

Disabling the Email Scanning option should resolve the issue. For step by step instructions, see below.

Before you Begin

NOTE: The following procedure will disable Email Scanning. As long as the Auto Protection option is enabled, your computer will continue to be protected from viruses. Visit http://www.norton.com for more information.

How to Disable Norton Email Scanning

Exit out of your email program.

Open the Norton AntiVirus program from the start menu, desktop icon, or system tray icon.

Click the Options button.

On the left side of the window, select the Email option listed under Internet.

Uncheck the boxes to the left of Scan incoming Email and Scan outgoing Email.

Click the OK button and restart your computer.

Attempt to send/receive email.
