Summary
Ping Primary Domain Name Server

Pass: This test verifies that the DSL modem can communicate with the primary Domain Name Server (DNS).

Fail: This test fails if the DSL modem was unable to communicate the primary Domain Name Server (DNS). This test may or may not have an effect on your Internet connectivity. Therefore if this test fails but you are still able to access the Internet, there is no need to troubleshoot this issue.

If this test failed, try the troubleshooting procedures listed below. After completing each individual procedure, it is important to wait for the DSL modem to recognize the fix and then click the Rerun Diagnostic Tests button to see if the problem is corrected.

Troubleshooting Procedures:

  • Turn OFF the power to the DSL modem, wait 10 seconds and turn it back ON.

  • With the DSL modem powered ON, hold down the external reset button on the DSL modem for at least five seconds and release it, wait for it to completely restart, then close and reopen this Web browser. This will reset the DSL modem back to its default settings. You will have to retype your DSL account logon username and password to reconfigure the modem.

If this test is failing and you are able to access the Internet, there is no need to contact EarthLink Technical Support. If you cannot access the Internet, you have tried all of the above procedures, and you are still experiencing this problem, contact EarthLink Technical Support.

  • If your DSL Account logon username ends with @earthlink.net or @sprintmail.com, call 1-888-829-8466.
  • If your DSL Account logon username ends with @mindspring.com or any other domain, call 1-888-847-4708.
