How to Configure the Linksys WRTP54G for EarthLink DSL
1

You may need to set your DSL modem to bridge mode before you connect your Linksys router. See KB article 39788 for instructions.

2

Connect your Linksys router to your DSL modem and computer. For an illustration on how to do so, see Article 32426.

3

Type the router's IP address in your browser address bar and press Enter. The default IP is 192.168.15.1.

4

You will receive a login prompt. Type in the current password for the router. If it is still in default configuration, you will type "admin" in the Username and Password field to gain entry.

NOTE: If the login prompt doesn't appear after you press Enter, try the following steps:

    1. Make sure that the Ethernet cable from your computer to the router is in place. See KB article 32426 if you need help connecting the devices properly.
    2. Try using a different web browser.
    3. Restart your computer. If you still can't get to the password screen after you restart, see KB article 149268 to set up your network control panel to use DHCP and then try again.

Important: You should change the default password for your router for greater security if you have not already. See KB article 33771 for instructions on changing the password.
5

The first screen you should see is the Basic Setup page. Choose PPPoE from the Internet Connection Type drop-down menu.

6
  • In the User Name field, type your full EarthLink email address (e.g. johndoe@earthlink.net).
  • In the Password field, type your EarthLink email password.

7

All other settings will remain the same. Click the Save Settings button.

8

The router will now save these settings and connect to the Internet. If the connection was completed successfully you should now be able to browse the Internet. If not, perform a power cycle discussed in Solving DSL Connection Problems.
