Changing a UHP Modem from PPPoE Mode to Bridged Mode
Changing a UHP Modem from PPPoE Mode to Bridged Mode
  • Article ID: 32292
  • Last modified date: December 13, 2011 9:12
Summary

When the built-in PPPoE is disabled in the UHP, you will need to set up a PPPoE client on your host computer unless you are using EarthLink Home Networking. Click here to get the EarthLink Home Networking service.

To set up a PPPoE client on your Windows or Mac computer, visit your manufacturer's support site. When using Home Networking, PPPoE will be the responsibility of the Linksys router that sits between your computer and the UHP modem.

Prerequisites:

Only your computer and modem should be connected at this time.

Changing a UHP Modem from PPPoE Mode to Bridged Mode
1

In the Address or URL field of your browser, type http://172.16.0.254/config. Press Enter.

NOTE: If the UHP ADSL Modem page doesn't appear after you press Enter, try the following steps:

  1. Make sure that the Ethernet cable from your computer to the modem is in place. See KB article 32426 if you need help connecting the devices properly. (Only connect the modem to the computer)
  2. Try using a different web browser.
  3. Restart your computer. If you still can't get to the page after you've restarted your computer, see KB article 35842 to set up your network control panel to use DHCP and then try again.

2

Click the Disable radio button in the DHCP/NAT/PPPoE Mode (UHP Mode) area.

3

Click the Submit button.

4

The UHP will now restart. Wait 60 seconds and then close the browser window.
