Adhere to the prerequisites and/or requirements that are mentioned above.

Type the router's IP address in your browser's address bar and press Enter. The IP address is 192.168.1.1.

You will receive a login prompt. Type in the current password for the router. If it is still in default configuration, you will leave the User Name field blank and type "admin" in the Password field to gain entry.

NOTE: If the login prompt doesn't appear after you press Enter, try the following steps:

• 1. Make sure that the Ethernet cable from your computer to the router is in place. See KB article 32426 if you need help connecting the devices properly.
  2. Try using a different web browser.
  3. Restart your computer. If you still can't get to the password screen after you restart, see KB article 149268 to set up your network control panel to use DHCP and then try again.
     
     
  
  
  Important: You should change the default password for your router for greater security if you have not already done so. See KB article 32396 for instructions on changing the password.

The first screen you should see is the Basic Setup page. Choose Automatic Configuration - DHCP from the Internet Connection Type drop-down menu.

All other settings will remain the same. Click the Save Settings button.

The router will now attempt to save these settings and connect to the Internet. Click Continue.

If the connection was completed successfully, you should now be able to browse the Internet.

NOTE: If you cannot connect to the Internet at this point, turn off both the Linksys router and your cable modem and leave them off for two minutes. Turn on the cable modem first, wait until the lights have stabilized, then turn on the Linksys router and attempt to browse again.
