How to Set Up Netscape Mail 7.0 to Send and Receive Email

  1. You will need the server settings for your e-mail address. Go to EarthLink Server Settings/ to get these settings.

  2. Open Netscape Mail & Newsgroups.

  3. Select Email account.

  4. Click the Next button.

  5. In the Your Name field, type in your name.

  6. In the Email Address field, type your full EarthLink email address (e.g., johndoe@earthlink.net).

  7. Click the Next button.

  8. Select POP.

  9. In the Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server field, type your Incoming mail server (POP).

Important: Refer to step 1 to find out the email server settings for your email address.

  10. In the Outgoing server field, type smtpauth.earthlink.net.

  11. Click the Next button.

  12. In the User Name field, type your full EarthLink email address (e.g., johndoe@earthlink.net).

  13. Click the Next button.

  14. In the Account Name field, type your full EarthLink email address (e.g., johndoe@earthlink.net).

  15. Click the Next button.

  16. Click the Finish button.

  17. From the Edit menu, choose Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings.

  18. Select Outgoing Server (SMTP) in the Accounts list.

  19. Change the Port to 587.

Note: You can also click Advanced to configure the Server Name and Port.

  20. Check the box next to Use name and password.

  21. In the User Name field, type your full EarthLink email address (e.g., johndoe@earthlink.net).

  22. Click the OK button.

Note: Port 587 will work on any ISP network. As a last resort, if all else fails, you can convert back to port 25; however port 25 will only work if you are connected to the Earthlink Network, so it should only be used if all else fails.
